One love is what we need...One love :)

Last time when I wrote Yeh tum Kahan chal diye ( http://somilpatni.blogspot.com/2007/12/yeh-tum-kahan-chal-diye.html) a lot of my friends asked me to write a poem where love does not have a sad ending .So I am trying to look at the other aspect of love here .In this poem I have tried to capture those sweet moments of life when everything is like Sunshine in winter :)

Now a days everything looks changed
Even the dry leaves look colorful again
I keep thinking about her now and then
You can come and tell me that I am going insane

I like walking slowly when she comes by ...
I wish at every moment that time just goes to Stand by

I look around and all I see is her ..
Even in my dreams I keep waving at her
I smile when I hear her voice ...
I really cant help it ...I have no choice

I keep inventing ways to meet her ....
And all the way up to her house I think how to greet her ...
How do I tell her that she is the answer to all my questions ..
and if I go on to describe love ...she will end up as my interpretation .

Does she also think the same about me ..or does she not
Should I talk more in front of her or should I know where to stop
Should I be more jovial or pretend to be serious ...
What does she think about me ..I am completely curious
Love as they say can really affect you in ways ...which can be mysterious.

Be it at office or be it at home ...
I am in my dreamworld with her and me alone
She make my nights longer and my days more bright ...
she has filled my life with unexplainable warmth and delight..

People say nothing good remains forever ...
And this feeling too shall pass away like nothing happened ever..
But it doesnt matter to me which way the story will sway..
all I know now is that love is here to stay ...
whichever way she goes ...it has to be "our" common way

Good Night !! Sweet Dreams !!

Nowadays I have cultivated a new habit of listening to some soft romantic songs or some instrumentals before sleeping .However most of the time I end up allowing the songs to go on the whole night as I am either fast asleep or too lazy by that time to shutdown my computer . This led me to search for some way to shutdown my computer at a specified time .And here I am with a simple working solution :

If you use XP ,you need not worry at all .All you have to do is go to the Dos Prompt and type this :
at 23:30 shutdown -s
Here 23:30 is the time at which you want the PC/Laptop to shutdown .

In case of Windows Vista I was facing some problem .As soon as I gave this command I was getting an access denied error ,even though I had logged-in as an administrator .So I figured out a work around .I created a Batch file in which I wrote the same command (To create a batch file all you have to do is open the Notepad, type this command and save it as a batch file *.bat).Then right click on this file and say "Run as administrator" . And you are all set !!!
This can also be used in Office ..in case you want to keep some Test running and want your PC to shutdown at a specified time .

Note1 : In case you want to abort the shutdown you can give this command
at 23:29 shutdown -a .This command will abort the system shutdown .
Note2 : Note that shutdown.exe is in one of the folders (normally C:\Windows\System32) listed in the %PATH% environment variable. Other commands will require the full file path
Note 3: I am sure there must be a better way to do it ,in case there is please do let me know .

Thought for the Morning

A small but sweet poem I wrote one early morning :)

Today, I got up early ..
I got up in time ...
I could still see in the beautiful blue sky
the stars that shine .
Flower have come out of the hiding ....
and they are spreading their Fragrance into the surrounding .

I had slept well..
and my dreams were GOOD !
Looking at the beauty around me ..
for sometime I stood .
I breathed in the fresh air for as long as I could ..
And my heartbeats responded with gratitude .

And then the cuckoo joined in ,
to give me company ..
As if singing ,"today you will change your destiny " !
And I smiled in acceptance ,
Sipping my cup of morning tea ...
its the right time to start yet another "Odyssey"

This has got to be a beautiful day...
May all the days of my life be this way !!

Great Expectations!!

Life is under no obligation to give us what we expect. -- Margaret Mitchell

Sometimes some experiences in your life jolt you out of your normal routine life and force you to ruminate on the things happening to you .
I recently had one such experience when some of my friends didn't rise to my expectations and left me all alone(that is what I felt that time ) when I needed their company. To be fair enough to them ,there was something that I had expected and there was something that they didnt think I expected and in the end what ensued was completely unexpected .It was one of those days when you like to listen to sad songs and feel a sadistic satisfaction that you alone are not sad .I am not sure about how much of gas or oil I used ,but the incident did cause me a lot of heart burn :) .

But as I thought about the whole incident and came to the conclusion that I finally drew ,I felt it was nothing short of a personal 'Aha' experience or a "Eureka moment" .The root of the problem was my "Great Expectations" . I had read a lot about it that we should never expect something from others orwe should be selfless in our service ,but never understood its signifance .Now I really understand how important it is in life .
In one of my previous blogs (My Canddle Burns At Both Ends) I wrote that it is the effort that really counts .Now I really believe it .

Life can be really more enjoyable if we live in the moment without expecting anything !!!

Now I know most of you would be thinking that can you really or rather should you really let go of your expectations ??
For ex. 1.Wont your parents who raise you with such love and care expect you to reciprocate it in return ??
2.Wont an Actor who gives his complete self to a movie expect it to be a block buster ??
3. Wont a sports person like to go out and hit a century or score a goal when he goes out in the field ???
4. Wont a boy expect the girl to love him in return the way he loves her ? (Ok Now I am going too far :D :P)
How can you really not expect these things ? And if you really dont expect anything ,what really will be your source of
inspiration ?

Well in the answer to these questions lies the "Aha" experience !

1.Tell me honestly did our parents raise us only because they wanted us to take care of them when we grow up or was it their love and affection for us ?
2.Will Amitabh Bachhan or Amir Khan really quit acting if they get a series of flop ?(well they may not get movies to sign ,but that is altogether a different topic )
3.Does Sachin really go out to bat for a century ? It may be his intention but what he really loves is the batting in itself. He will keep batting as long as he enjoys batting (and is kept in
the team :D )

On a ligher note, will you stop reading if you read one bad article(I hope this is not the one ) ???
NO! Because you love reading in the first case ! :D

Lets take one more example !
I have a dog at home .His name is Scooby .Sometimes when he does some mischief I scold him and he whines and goes away .
If he does something good ,I go and roll my hand over his back and pat him .He neither whines nor goes away :D.
But whatever way I treat him ,he always greets me with an excited expression and a wagging tail (whose speed is directly proportional to the distance between him and me ).That is the lesson we all must learn .To love without expectation !!!!

My basic point is that we should really do what we enjoy doing .All we should care about is the process .Things may or may not turn out the way we want them to be ...but one thing is for sure ,we will be a lot more satisfied .
It took me a bad experience to realise this .But I hope it takes you just an article to realise the same !

In the end Life is nothing but an improperly written complex equation. It depends on a lot of useless variables (like Expectation, Inflated Ego,Anger etc ) .Our aim in life is to simplify this equation by removing all the unwanted variables and make this equation prefect !!!

Quotes for thought :
To free us from the expectations of others, to give us
back to ourselves--there lies the great, singular power of self-respect. -- Joan Didion

One of the things that my parents have taught me is never listen to other people's expectations.
You should live your own life and live up to your own expectations, and those are the only things
I really care about it. -- Tiger Woods

The sudden disappointment of a hope leaves a scar which
the ultimate fulfillment of that hope never entirely removes. -- Thomas Hardy

Expectations are like showing carrot to a Donkey ! You will keep chasing it ,but never get it !!! --Somil Patni (do remember this during your appraisal cycle :D )

Think Before you SPEAK ..or else...well read on and you will know :D

Dont You Just Love It When...

  1. People who point at their wrist while asking for the time. I know where my watch is pal, where the @#$@ is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?
  2. People who are willing to get off their arse to search the entire room for the TV remote because they refuse to walk to the TV and change the channel manually.
  3. When people say, "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too." Right!. What good is a cake if you can't eat it?
  4. When people say "It's always in the last place you look." Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it?
  5. When people say while watching a film "Did you see that?" No, I paid $10.00 to come to the cinema and stare at the floor.
  6. People who ask, "Can I ask you a question?" Didn't really give me a choice there, did you sunshine?
  7. When something is "new and improved!" Which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, there must have been something before it.
  8. When people say, "Life is short." What?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What can you do that's longer?

My candle burns at both ends !!

Read these lines while surfing the net and loved them instantly :

My candle burns at both ends ..
It may not last the night !
But ah my foes and oh my friends....
It gives me a lovely light !!

My Interpretation :
Candle burning at both ends signifies an effort to achieve something even at the cost of personal discomfort ,just like a sportsman(say runner) who toils endlessly in gym doing some exercise just to gain that extra life changing "second".
His effort may not the "last the night" or turn out to be "fruitful",BUT...
Ah my friends the result does not count as long as you love the effort ...the effort gives you a LOVELY light !!!

Bring back the child inside you

People always say to me that I have grown by size but not by brains and that I am very childish .
People also say to me that I am a hyper-active guy with loads of energy and a never ending optimism towards life !
Today I thought that I connect these two different interpretations of mine .
I sincerely believe being mature doesn't mean that you need to have a serious look on your face ,that you should say a particular thing and avoid saying a particular thing .I have seen a lot my my childhood friends grow into dull adults .
At the age of 25 they feel they have had enough of everything ! You can easily identify them by listening
to their language ..like Life is boring yaar !! I want a break !!! I want to do something different ,but I don't know what !!!!

And it is from these observations that my "Always be a child at heart" theory is derived .

As a child we are very curious and excited about everything in life .We have set no limitations on us .
Every day we wake up with a bright smile ..totally excited and curious about what in for us today.
For us only sky is the limit!!We love people and get unconditional love in return .
But as we start growing up we start losing touch with our inner self .We create a invisible shield around us to hide our incompetencies and shortcomings .We try to please everyone and in the process loose touch with what we really are .
We still want to go out and dance in the rain ...but then we stop thinking what will the others say !!!
Being a child brings back passion into our life .We are committed to a thing without thinking much about the results .
We are more lifelike with more set of emotions .
Also being a child doesn't mean that you let go of your responsibilities .Even a child takes care of his things .Next time just go and try to snatch his favorite toy and you will know the answer :D .Even he has his priorities set !
What I mean is preserve that fire inside yourself .If you want to dance ..go ahead ! If you want to sing ...go ahead !!
Join that Guitar class you have always been waiting for ...Just do it ...Its never too late ...and don't let your age come in between .
Live the moment for what it is ...Enjoy the ride ..till Death shows you the "Red" signal :)

BTW there is one more person in this world who shares the same views as mine and probably explain this concept better than me ,here is the link :

A passing thought

As I sat on the early morning shoreline of Lake Michigan a sense of calm and composure started dawning on me .I was feeling that joy ,one doesn't feel often in this fast paced life .I was enjoying doing nothing and feeling the cool breeze and watching lazily the mist emanating from the water . The setting was there ,the time was there and a very beautiful song started playing on my IPOD and the next moment I found myself humming the tune of Gulzar's super hit song "Tujhe Naraz Nahi Jindagi ,Hairan Hoon Main...Tere Masoom Sawalon Se Pareshan Hoon Main !!"
I started thinking the context of the song and how it applies to our life .I asked myself do we really need to be angry or perplexed with our life? Are we the chosen ones to face all the trauma that world has to offer ? Are we all alone left with no support in this so called cruel world ?
Sometimes we feel totally isolated and excluded from the world .We look around for solace but find nothing but a vacuum and perpetual darkness in return .

And then suddenly from somewhere there's a flash and in that momentary brightness we come face to face with the truth that ,External factors provide temporary solace .We need to go back to the roots .We have to look inside . We need to love and respect ourself .At every level and every strata there is a problem of varying complexities .We have the free will to choose and no one can deny that to us .We need to be the source of light rather than a gloomy blackhole .And then we can sing "Ae Jindagi Gale lagale....Humne bhi tere har ek gham ko gale se lagaya hain ...hain na ? "

Hmm ...I Guess its time for me to go back to my camp(tent) again ...otherwise Jindagi ka to pata nahi ...my friends will definitely be angry with me for being so late from the morning trail :D

Na jaane kyon...

Theme : All of us love to love and to be loved in return .Everyone would love to go through that "Pehla Nasha Pehla Khumar " in his life . Some lucky souls find it and some are still waiting with open hearts .In this poem I have made a humble attempt to capture feelings of all those Single ready to Mingle souls :)

Na jaane kis ki yaad aa rahi hain ..
Na Jaane kyon meri jaan ja rahi hain ...
Har taraf andhera hain ....
Aur Is andhere main yeh kaun roshi banake nazar aa rahi hain ...

Main sochta tha ..Main na tadapoonga kabhie ...
Pyar ke is bhanwar main ....Main na uljhoonga kabhie ..
Phir yeh dil ki dhadkan geet kyon gaa rahi hain ...
Geet gaake yeh kisko bula rahi hain ?

Agar tum ho...,to tum kaun ho ...
Sirf ek ehsaas banake hi mehsoos kyon hoti ho ...
Sirf ek dard banake mujhe kyon dukhati ho ...

Kya tum ek khwaab ho ...mere sapnoy ke rang ka ...
Ya phir ek soch ho ...meri dil ki umang ka ....
Ek din waqt tumhe Haqeekat banayega ....
Tab tak yeh dil ..tumhari yaad main ...yeh geet gata jaayega ...

Tuesdays with Morrie

My Favorite Quote from that novel :
"In the beginning of life, when we were infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive, right? But here's the secret: in between, we need others as well."

The Summer is BACK

Authors note : The summer here signifies not only the change in the weather but also change in the way we see the world .Summer means life in all its colors ....a life of action and optimism. Summer means opening the doors to the world again and taking all its beauty in !

The Sun is shining again ...
The clouds of doom have dispersed ...
The winds of hope are blowing again ...
The painful past is finally flowing down the drain ....

Once again I see hope ...
Once again I smile ...
But in this moment of exhilaration ...
I should remember ...
that everything comes for a while !

Life is a great leveler ...
It has lot to teach ..
I may not have everything for everyone ...
But it does have something for each .
